Nickelodeon gets an adjusted schedule as well as what became known as the "abstract era" begins. The on-air branding style for this era included backgrounds with the colors orange, white, yellow, black, and aqua. It included bumpers with different Nicktoons being shown with catchphrase announcements like:
"The Thornberrys are back, tell your dog!"
"We'll be right back... (cut to Dil's butt) after diapie time."
"Rugrats are back, eat some baby food!"
"Where's Arnold? He's back on!"
"DogCat's back! - Um...you mean CatDog..?"
"Chalk it up! We're back!"
"I wish the Fairly OddParents were back." ("ding" sound effect)
"He's SpongeBob, he's squishy, he's back!"
"More rocket, more power! More now."
The mess is back! Slime Time Live returns to Nickelodeon with a at 4PM ET.
Warner Bros. Animation and Steven Spielberg's Pinky and the Brain makes its cable television debut on Nickelodeon today at 6/5c and will air Monday-Saturday at that slot. Nickelodeon licensed all 78 episodes of Pinky and the Brain.
Nick at Nite heads back to school with the girls of Eastland Academy as the network launches The Facts of Life. Beginning tonight through Friday, September 8 from 8:30/7:30c to 12:30/11:30c, Nick at Nite will act as homeroom to Blair, Tootie, Natalie and the rest of the students during a forty episode study of this long-running series. The series became a platform for future stars -- such as semi-regulars Molly Ringwald and George Clooney -- as well as notable guests such as Helen Hunt, Eve Plumb, David Spade, El DeBarge and Juliette Lewis.
